On May 31st, 2008, in the town where it all began, the Modesto Film Society and Modesto Junior College - in association with the State Theatre, the Modesto Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Central Valley Doo-Wop Society, and the Graffiti Summer Committee - will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the release of American Graffiti, one of the films that changed modern cinema. It will be part of the month-long Graffiti-fest that has been hosted by Modesto every June for the past several years.

The Graffiti Tribute will be the second event in as many years to pay tribute to the life and work of Modesto native and MJC alumnus, George Lucas. The first event, a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the release of his blockbuster film Star Wars, was held this past June. (Please see www.StarWarsTribute.com for details.)

This non-profit, educational venture is affiliated with The Modesto Film Society, The State Theatre, and the Stanislaus Community Foundation, which are 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations headquartered in Modesto. Any funds raised and/or donated to the event will be used to help defray costs of the event and to support future educational activities.
